5/23/2004 I don't even know where to begin. There's soooo much stuff to report. Um.... Ok. I guess the beginning is always good. So, I left for Scotland on the 12th, which explains the empty blog space. Dad drove me to Atlanta, and I flew from there to Frankfurt without any problems. I had about 2 or 3 hours there before my flight to Edinburgh, again with no problems. Once I got off the plane in Edinburgh, I went through customs, which was surprisingly easy. The funny thing was that the official who was asking me stuff told me, once I'd said where I was from, that she had friends that are currently in Daphne, Alabama. Why, I have no idea. But whatever. I got my lovely Scotland stamp on my passport, and then I went to the baggage area to get my stuff. Next, I walked outside to the bus terminal, found the right one, and it took me to Waverly Station in Edinburgh, where I met Alison. We bought train tickets for St. Andrews and then got something to eat, and then we got on the train, and rode to our next stop. Once in St. Andrews, we got off the train and walked (quite a long way, or maybe it was the heavy bag-carrying that made it seem long) to her flat in Albany Park. I don't so much remember what we did that evening... I think we hung out in the common room for a little while with her boyfriend and had dinner, and then I believe I went to sleep. Because the next morning... We walked back to the train station, went back into Edinburgh, took the bus back to the airport... And flew to London. Whee. In London, we collected our bags, took the tube to... somewhere. And walked to our hostel. Which, fortunately, we did not have to share with anyone else. We managed to keep the 4 person room to just us for two days. Yay. So while in London, we went shopping a few times, went to St. James Park, Westminster Abbey, the British Museum, and the National Gallery. We also walked onto one of London's many bridges (I think the Golden Jubilee?) and got a good view of the river, Big Ben, and the London Eye. We also went to the Theatre Royal at Haymarket where we saw a stage production of When Harry Met Sally starring Alyson Hannigan and Luke Perry. Much fun. They did an amazing job. But I have to rent the movie when I get home because I've never seen it and we didn't get to see the end of the show. Yes, I was there when the ceiling fell down. Go me. Okay, that's a slight exaggeration... But still. We just got covered in dust. But dammit, we didn't get to see the end!! Grrr. At least our money was refunded. The day after the theatre disaster, we flew back to Edinburgh, and... you guessed it! Took the bus and the train back to St. Andrews! Fortunately, we didn't have to walk from the train station, though, because one of Alison's friends picked us up. Yay! So since we've been back... We've gone into town to go shopping and stuff, but mostly to the grocery store. I window shopped a few days ago, and I'll be going back tomorrow to buy a few things as gifts. And I think we're going to have lunch in town, also, at Papa Joe's. I've been reading, sleeping, and making periodic visits to the computer lab and treks into town. All of her friends are very nice, and I particularly like Lindsay and Bryn. ^_^ Maybe I'll get to see them again, I don't know. Since Bryn goes to Wellesley and Lindsay will be visiting the states in July. I've been out with everyone twice and have found two drinks that are not absolutely horrible. ^_^ Vodka and coke = bad. And Smirnoff Ice, too. Malibu and coke, however, I could get used to. And vodka mudshakes. Those are okay. We attempted to have a barbecue on the beach this evening, which turned out... well, okay in the end, I guess. But it would have been a lot better if we'd just done it in front of Alison's flat. On the beach, there was sand blowing everywhere due to the always present wind. It got into our eyes, our mouths, our clothes, our hair, our food... Yummy. I left early and was kindly given a ride back to the flat, where I drank hot chocolate and had a cookie... And now I'm in the lab typing this. Tomorrow, we'll go into town for lunch, stop at a store where I want to buy a couple things, and stop at the post office to look into shipping a few things back so as to avoid the heavy luggage problem. And then Tuesday, I'll be on my way home. My flight leaves Edinburgh at 6:10, goes to Frankfurt where I'll be stuck for 13 hours, then to Atlanta, where mom will meet me at the baggage claim and drive me home. YAY. And I'll get to see my Lucy again. ^_^ And celebrate my birthday for real! Whew. I guess that's everything. Be home soon! posted 2:45 PM / post / view (0) 5/6/2004 Yeah, I'm special. I checked my medication a few days ago and decided that I would call in a new prescription on Monday night before I went to bed, and I would pick it up Tuesday, since I was taking my last dose on Monday. So I call it in. Tuesday comes and goes; that night I realize I never picked it up so I took my last 30 mg pill that was left over from when I changed doses and said, "Okay, I'll get it tomorrow." So Wednesday comes and goes, I wake up from my nap at 8:30 something and realize I never picked it up. So I think, "Damn it. Well, it's only one day, it won't hurt that much. I'll get it tomorrow." So Thursday comes and goes, and again, I wake up from my nap, but this time around 8:00. And I think, "DAMN IT! I did it again!" But the pharmacy is open till 9, so I got up and went over and I picked it up. Wasn't that a fun story? Well, fine. Here's another one. Just another example of why I love Dr. Whitley. We're taking our final this afternoon, and someone asks her a question, which the rest of us don't hear. And Dr. Whitley answers, "Sure, you can just put the CCC." And then she starts laughing. Apparently the question was, can we put the initials for New Deal programs, instead of writing them all the way out? And instead of saying, yes, just put the initials, she said, yes, just put the CCC (instead of Civilian Conservation Corps). So when she realized what she did, she started laughing and told everybody, hey number 17 is the CCC, write it down. It was funny. I guess you had to be there. posted 11:21 PM / post Oh my God!
