It's very disconcerting when you're in one room and hear a loud noise from another room that sounds like your cat just tipped over something very, very large, but when you go to investigate, you can't find anything out of place.

Update: This particular noise was caused by a cat getting tangled in the computer cords behind my desk and pulling my speakers over, sliding down the desk, and hitting the wall. Case closed.

I almost forgot.

Merry Christmas!

posted 10:48 PM / post

Christmas was wonderful this year, as always. I think it's my favorite holiday. And not just for the getting of presents, either. :) But I did get some good stuff, so that's nice.

I had to submit my guest list for the ball last week. Surprisingly, I was able to fit everyone in. I couldn't find an escort, though, so John is kindly stepping in for me. But now I have to go have my dress fitted... I'm kinda scared to see what it looks like. We'll see.

I've tried to go see Big Fish twice now, and it's been sold out both times. If I'd been smart enough, I would have bought tickets yesterday for today after seeing Cold Mountain (which was good, but wholly depressing), but I didn't think of that. So we went back tonight for the 8:00 show; I got in (a very long) line around 7:15, and by the time I got to the window it was sold out. Sigh. But this time, I did buy tickets for tomorrow. So. No matter what, we are seeing that movie tomorrow night at 8:00.

Now for a bit of randomness, but it's something that's been bothering me. Every so often, I see this commercial from Charter advertising this special channel of theirs that's purely for advertising purposes. They want businesses and whatever to buy ads for this channel. My questions is this: Commercials are meant to entice the consumer to buy a product/service, correct? Which is why commercials are interspersed with actual TV shows. But why, if you had a choice, would you voluntarily watch a channel that does nothing but advertise? I wouldn't. So I think it's safe to say that these ads are not reaching a wide number of people. It sounds like a complete waste of money to me, to buy an ad on a channel that runs nothing but ads. Is it just me, or does that sound incredibly stupid?

67 degrees two days before Christmas is just wrong.

I know this is Alabama, but come on!

EEEK! Ellie, if you hadn't just found out yesterday before taking an 8-hour flight home from Scotland, I would so kill you right now for not telling me!

Congrats, Jessie!!

I still need a date.

Sigh.

Ahh, busy weekend. Well, busy half-weekend. Saturday was spent almost entirely with my family, beginning with my mom's graduation, followed by a two hour lunch with friends at Copeland's, followed by saying goodbye to Robin, followed by a three hour nap, followed by a two hour dinner at the country club with more friends. And Sunday... well, Sunday was spent almost completely in bed. But that's me.

And today, I got paid twice, so yay! And I'll be paid again tomorrow if I can remember to get dad to run my paycheck...

I finally cleaned up my room. It's much better now... I no longer have a huge pile of clothes that migrates daily from my desk chair to my bed and back again. Oh, and my dad told me he's buying me a futon for Christmas. Yay! We'll have to go out looking this weekend, I guess. I can't believe it's almost Christmas. It's only been cold for a week or two.

Oh, and... I got my first paycheck from the doctor's office today, and I'll be damned if they're not still paying me minimum wage. You'd think for the favor I'm doing them, they could at least give a tiny raise, but no... I better be getting a good Christmas bonus, at least. That would be nice. At least there's lots of free food...

Have I mentioned how much I love Joan of Arcadia? 'Cause I do.

It rocks.

Is it strange that I still remember this date as being the birthday of a friend I haven't seen or spoken to in about 3 years? And haven't actually been friends with for about 7? I can't decide. But anyway... Happy birthday, Lauren. You're 21.

I would just like to point out that Ellie is the bestest friend in the whole world! She sent my mom flowers all the way from Scotland to say congratulations, because she can't be at the graduation on Saturday. I think mom almost cried telling me about it. ;) Thanks, sweetie!

And Melanie is also wonderful, too. And I miss Trey. Bah. But my kitty is home from the vet and doing fine, and being all cute. And she's smart. Instead of using her litter box (which now has shredded paper instead of litter), she's using the towel next to the box, where there's some stray litter. Hmm. What to do about this little problem...

I'm so tired. It's hard being a file clerk in a doctor's office. Especially when there's one office worker on vacation with a nurse filling in while her doctor is also on vacation. It's an interesting place. But tomorrow I go to my real job, where I get paid a lot more. Yay.

I finished all my finals. I should have an A in psychology and in art history, but I really don't know what to expect from southern history and english history. Hopefully B's but we'll see. I'm just glad it's over and my vacation has started! Well, sort of. I still have to work, but at least I'm just working and not also going to class.

I need to finish my Christmas shopping... But I'm waiting for all my transactions to go through the bank so I can see exactly how much money I'll have after I pick up Lucy from the vet tomorrow. 'Cause that's going to make a sizeable dent in my account... About a $300 dollar dent to be exact. Sigh. But it's almost worth it just to be getting my kitten back. :)

It's kinda weird to be home again. I really need to clean all the junk out of my room. But now I've gotta go, 'cause Melanie is on her way over to visit and then we're going to the midnight (actually 10-12) breakfast. I hope everyone's doing well on their finals!

I seem to be going through a thing where I feel really lonely at night. Even if I've been with friends all day.

I don't like it.

I got everything done today that I was supposed to, except for one thing. The most important thing. Getting my prescription refilled at the pharmacy. I have no more pills. Argh! Fortunately, I still have a few of the old ones left; they're a lower dosage, but it'll work until I can get the new one. Sigh. I did several other stupid things today. I'm on a stupid streak, I swear. I wish it would stop. I already forgot how to use my blinkers today... Long story, don't ask.

I did get a lot of Christmas shopping done, so I'm almost ready for the party Saturday. But I still have to wrap everything and make my Christmas cards (heh) and finish a couple of presents... But that's all. Easy, right?

And the stupidity continues. I just realized today that I could call Alison from work, because international calling is set up for the phones there. Dad told me that, indirectly, a week ago, and I just now put the pieces together. Bah.

I'm having a weird day. In case I hadn't mentioned it.

I'm having a weird day. I'm still in a very good mood, but I did something stupid this morning... Locked my keys in Robin's room. Smaaaaaart Cathy.... But I got 'em. And now I'm at work with nothing to do. Bah. I have a paper to write! I'm late, I'm late! No, wait, that's something else.

What did I tell you about being in a weird mood?

On my way to work, I passed this guy walking his dog on S. Perry, and as I passed him, I glanced back to get a better look at the dog. And this guy... was wearing a mask! Like, one of those creepy ones that's made to look like a face. It was very odd. It made him look like a blind bank robber with a seeing-eye dog, or something. Not that his dog really was a seeing-eye dog... But he could've been...

Yeah, I'm going back to work now. Or back to waiting on work. Come on, gimme something to do!

I'm feeling very accomplished right now, having written the introduction to my southern history paper. Finally.

I'm in a strangely good mood, also. Hm.

By the way, Ellie, I think I forgot to tell you that Robin and John are officially engaged now, with a ring and everything. ^_^ Wahoo!

I think that's enough randomness for one night.

I'm being very studious today. I'm so proud.

I found out that I get to keep my position on the Prelude for another year, so yay! And last year's yearbooks are finally here. And Brannon is coming to visit on Saturday. And we're having a Christmas party Saturday night. Wheeee! If I can just get my papers done, I'll be over the hump.

I thought of a strange thing today. All French words with two syllables have the emphasis on the second syllable. That must be pretty nifty for when you don't know how to pronounce a word. That's my random thought for today.

Ah well. Back to work.

Yay for a 30-minute phone conversation with Ellie! Email's nice, but it's just not the same.

I found out when I got home this afternoon that when I burned the finished PageMaker file containing this semester's issue of the Prelude to cd, I forgot to include the art images. What I'd like to know is why I'm only hearing about this now, when I handed off that cd over two weeks ago. Whatever.

I have two papers to write by Thursday. Wahoo. Then finals. And then IT'S OVER! Wheeeee!

Oh, I'm so ready for Christmas vacation.

I had a very bad experience with a large bug today. Ask me if you want the story 'cause I don't feel like typing it. Besides, I think it loses something in translation, anyway...

Also, I spent four and a half hours shopping today and managed to buy only three things. Since I also returned two things I'd previously bought, that doesn't amount to much. Money-wise, this is good. Christmas shopping-wise, this is bad. Hm.

Now it is time for bed. I must rejoin the real world in seven and a half hours. Bah.
