10/29/2001 I'm so tired. We had to take Katie to the emergency room last night (this morning) because she's been sick; she has a really bad case of strep throat. The doctor gave her a prescription to get filled, so she went and got that this morning. She must have taken one as soon as she got back (hopefully, not while she was driving), 'cause Mel and I found her in the living room, lying straight out on the floor, on her stomach, with one hand reaching up to the stereo dial (it's only about a foot off the floor). And she was asleep. Dead as a doornail. We tried to wake her up, but she just curled up into a ball. So we decided to leave her for the time being. Well, about five minutes later, I'm in here on the computer, and Katie stumbles in, pulls her coat on, and then sort of half collapses to a sitting position on the floor, while she starts putting socks on. Right after that, she just falls over on her side, and bam, she's asleep again. So I stepped over her and got Mel, and she went to get our RA (Sarah), and between the three of us we figured out what was happening. She took a caplet of hydrocodone. So she's gonna be practically dead for about 12 more hours. We got her settled on the futon in the living room about 10 minutes ago, but she's already lying on the floor again. So... I think we'll just let her sleep wherever she wants to. She sure as hell can't get into her bed; she has the top bunk. Yeesh. This is fun.I got my midterm grades; A's in rhetoric and LAS, a C in 2-D Design (the devil class), and no grade for digital art. Hm. I'll have to check on that. Anyway... I got lots of stuff to do, so that's it for now. posted 5:37 PM / post 10/23/2001 I had a very fun weekend. I stayed in the dorm the whole time; didn't even go home to do my laundry. I did that Monday. ^_^ And last night after the last performance of the play, Melanie and I tagged along with Brannon to a drama person's house (or apt., whatever), and we hung out there with some other cast members until about 1. It was very fun; drama people are always awesome.I think I forgot to mention that I brought three fish back from my fall break. In any case, two are dead now. We named them King Triton, Peaches, and.... umm.... something. Wow, that sucks that I can't remember what I named my own fish. Anyway, the only one still alive is Peaches. I'm sure it won't be for long. I think they were already sick, 'cause we certainly didn't do anything wrong. We're practically goldfish pros now. Jennifer (down the hall) brought a turtle back from fall break. It's the cutest little thing! She named it Shelby. I just think it's adorable. My rescheduled appt. with Dr. Collier was this afternoon at 2. I got there, and she told me she needed to reschedule it because one of her clients was having an emergency and needed to see her. So. I left again. Going back Thursday. At 4. Thursday at 4. REMEMBER! That was for me, by the way, not you. We're all going back to the planetarium on Saturday night to see the synchronization show of the Wizard of Oz and Pink Ffloyd. Should be interesting. Oh! I got an A on my magazine cover, and on my speech! Yay me! posted 3:39 PM / post 10/17/2001 I updated the links list; changed a few URLs and added a couple new ones. Whoo!I'm so damn bored. I went to the Planetarium this morning with all the other freshmen in the LAS seminar. We watched something about Mankind's interest in the stars over time called Light Years from Andromeda that really had nothing to do with Andromeda at all. The only thing I learned that's actually useful is how to find the North Star. Yay. And then I had art class this afternoon; we had to choose three different images and put them together in our own composition. I like how mine is turning out, but it's not done yet. It probably won't be until Monday, which is when it's due. I need to write a speech for my rhetoric class. I think I'm going to do it on anthrax. It's certainly something people would be interested in right now. I think I'll try and find something else to do now. Bah. Listening to: # 1 Crush by Garbage posted 11:27 PM / post 10/16/2001 I had a very nice vacation. Four days at home with no work to do. ^_^ Ahh...I also just got back from our last home soccer game where I froze my ass off for two and a half hours. It was a really good game, though. We had to go into overtime because the other guys scored towards the end and tied it. Towards the end of the first OT, one of our guys was in the goal box and got nudged, so he took the opportunity to take a dive. And taking a hit in the box gets an automatic penalty shot for us, sooo..... We took it and won the game. ^_^ Heh. Suckers. They also had one of their players kicked out for tripping up our goalie. Mean people. I have an LAS paper to write for tomorrow. I had an idea for it last Friday, but I'll be damned if I can remember what it was now.... Listening to: All the Small Things by Blink182. posted 10:59 PM / post 10/12/2001 Just because I feel like it, here is what I turned in for my newspaper article:Random Thoughts by Cathy (names changed to protect their identities) It is currently 11:09 PM on Monday, October 8th. And I have no idea what to write about. Unless I have a set topic or something I’m really pissed off about, I usually can’t think of anything worthwhile to say. So I’m going to ramble. I apologize in advance. I have five roommates. Amazingly enough, we all get along. We’re all a little strange in our own ways. For instance, Rachel* goes home every weekend. Every single one. I usually don’t even see her on Fridays; she’s gone by the time I get back from my first class at 11:30. Her boyfriend calls every night between 5:45 and 6:15. Always. And several times after that. She’s also a homework fanatic. Case in point: she had a five-page essay to be turned in last Friday. Last Monday, she found out the due date had been pushed back to this Monday. She worked on it all week long, stayed in Thursday night instead of going out with us, and turned it in Friday anyway. Melissa* is very energetic. She wants to be a cheerleader. And she’s so worried about not being a good cheerleader that she’s started stretching every night and wearing ankle-weights when she walks so she can build up her leg muscles. She also seems to have a weakness for any guy whose name starts with the letter “J.” She’s dated a Jamie, a Jeremiah, and a Judson, and she’s currently interested in a Jeremy. And on a more random note, she doesn’t understand French at all. Karen* is very much a night person. Which is good since she’s a sorority girl. And when she gets mad, it can be very amusing to watch. Last week, she spent more than two hours fighting with her ex-boyfriend’s current girlfriend through Instant Messenger. Then she got tired of it and picked up the phone so she could just say what she was thinking. All I can think of for Brandy*, or as we all lovingly call her, Whore # 3, is that her day just isn’t complete without losing her keys at least twice before dinner. And Lily*’s relatively normal. Although she’s turned our living room into the gathering place for the entire hall, but hey... I can live with that. And this is the magazine cover I turned in today for my digital art class. We had to choose a magazine, and make up our own cover for it. So I used Biography and Audrey Hepburn (duh). I just have one class tomorrow, and then a four-day weekend! Whoo-hoo! posted 12:44 AM / post 10/8/2001 I need a topic. I've needed one for four days. I have to write an article for the freshman newspaper. For tomorrow. At 11:00. I'm screwed.Just FYI. You know. posted 9:09 PM / post 10/5/2001 You'll never guess what I did. Remember how I was talking about my doctor's appt. on the 4th, and how I was reminding myself every chance I could get, and I refused to forget this time. Well, I forgot. After my little trip to the Health Dept. yesterday with Melanie, I came back to the dorms, then to my 11:00 class, then to lunch. Then I came back to my room and after a little while took a nap. I didn't wake up until 5:00. And I didn't even remember the appt. until 3:30 this morning. So. Time to re-schedule again. Bah.posted 12:08 PM / post 10/4/2001 You know, the Montgomery County Health Department is surprisingly nice, considering it's in the practically ghetto part of town.posted 11:31 AM / post 10/3/2001 I brought my scanner from home, finally. Everything's hooked up and working. Happiness and joy.I turned in my art projects today, thank God. That's over. Sometime before Monday, though, I have to go to the school library and photocopy three images to bring to class for our next project. Something easy this time. Yay. ^_^ If they'll fit, I think I'll start scanning in my artwork. Something new to finally add to my gallery. I really need to take pictures of my dorm.... I have a camera sitting, ready and waiting, on my dresser, but somehow I haven't gotten around to it. Heh. I'll take some this weekend when the play opens. It's some original thing the drama department wrote called A Man Like Marlowe. My roommate Brannon landed the all-important role of whore #3. We're so proud. Tomorrow I finally have my appt. with Dr. Collier. I just have so much to say! Actually, I don't, but I do want to ask her a question about my medication; I've been saving it for months, trying not to forget it. Hurry up! My memory's not good! Bah. Random note: Only in Alabama can you hear an ad on the rodeo for the pig-racing at the state fair. I can barely contain the excitement. Have I mentioned I hate the fair? I'm parking all the way out in no-man's-land again, thanks to the new ticket-happy security people. Damn them. Parking isn't that big of a problem, but no, they insist that we poor defenseless freshman girls (well, and boys) park all the way across campus and walk back to the dorms in the middle of the night. Yes, technically we can call security and have them drive us in their little golf-cart-things, but the one time Melanie and I tried to use their little pager-phone in the parking lot it didn't even work. So. Great. Does anyone else think the weeks are going by particularly fast? I swear it seems like yesterday was Monday. But it's actually almost Thursday. Strange. But nice, in a way. Anyway, I'm done with today's babblings (for now), so I'll be going... Maybe I can find some work to do. Ha! Yeah, right. Listening to: The Power of Good-bye by Madonna posted 11:02 PM / post 10/2/2001 Poor Melanie. She got two parking tickets today. That must suck.On another note, I just bought a copy of Photoshop for $300. God, I love student discounts. ^_^ Listening to: Becca practicing her guitar in the next room. posted 3:44 PM / post The damn fire alarm keeps going off! Blissful silence and then high-pitched shrieking for 3 seconds. It's only nine in the freakin' morning! Make it stop!posted 10:02 AM / post 10/1/2001 Oh, and I also watched the premiere of Alias tonight on ABC. It looks like it'll be pretty good, in case anyone's interested. ^_^posted 1:08 AM / post I hate Two-Dimensional Design! It's the only class I don't like, but it's also the longest. We meet Mondays and Wednesdays at 1:30 and stay for two damn hours. I don't know about other people, but I don't like to work on my art with people around me. And my teacher really gets on my nerves. She reminds me of passive-aggressive Pam from SNL. She smiles all the friggin' time, only it's more like a little half-smile. And you never know if she intends a remark as constructive or not. Like she'll make a suggestion, only you don't know if she's saying, "You could also do this..." or "Do it this way or I'll fail you." Anyway, it's getting on my damn nerves. And this little rant was brought on by the fact that we have a 3-part project due Wednesday, of which only my first part is done. I have a ways to go, and it's just too freakin' tedious for me!Well. Now that that's out of the way.... Melanie (one of my roommates) is practically in love with this guy, and they hang out all the time either at his apartment or here (which is fine, 'cause we all like him). And she seems to get more work done when she's at his place, so she spent the night there three nights this weekend. Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. And in all this time, they've only really kissed once. Which was last night. And they sleep together, but really, just sleep. He's one of those rare types that doesn't want to have sex until he's married. So, anyway... She really likes the guy, she gets all giggly when she comes back from spending time with him, it's all practically perfect. Only she's afraid of getting involved with another guy this fast. This is a girl who's had a boyfriend since 8th grade until just before coming here. Four years straight. But only three or four different guys, only two of which were really serious. So when she came here, she promised herself to spend a whole month without dating. And with about a week and a half left to go, she met Rick. And technically, they didn't go on a real date until Friday night, which means she got through the whole month. But she feels like that month did a lot of good, and she's afraid to just jump back in. Personally, I feel like she should go for this thing with Rick while it's there; you never know, she may have a long while yet to be boyfriend-less. I mean, don't pass up a good thing just because it's there when you don't want it. But I'm trying not to say anything since it's really her decision... And I feel like she'll eventually go for it, anyway, on her own. So. We'll see. I put my new layout for starlet on the backburner until I can figure out how to do it without making the image look crappy in the process... So anyway, I started working on a new one featuring a very different person, and I like the way it's turning out. So maybe I'll have that done in the next couple of weeks. Well. I think that's enough rambling for now. ^_^ I need to print my paper.... Listening to: Something indistinguishable coming from Katie's computer... posted 1:04 AM / post |
