8/29/2001 Me sick. I woke up at 4:30 yesterday morning feeling like crap. It's either a cold or some kind of sinus thing, but I can't figure out which. My throat generally doesn't hurt with sinus problems but it does now; and I can feel the pressure building inside my head, which usually means it is a sinus problem. Grr. Oh well. DayQuil is good. It was in my little first aid kit from home. Moms are great. ^_^Melanie's birthday is Friday. We're going to try and surprise her with a party, or something. She's had kind of a bad week. And Katie finally finished rush and she's a chi omega. I think. She seems really happy. ^_^ I have class in half an hour. It's the only one I'm not particularly happy with, but it's required. And I've only gone once, so maybe it won't be as bad as I think. Oh, I almost forgot. Remember how I saved so much money on books, as compared to what everyone else was having to spend? Well, I had to go buy supplies for my art class yesterday and ended up spending almost $200. So that pretty much evens it out. Bah. posted 10:36 AM / post 8/26/2001 Whew. This week was busy. I don't think I've had so much to do in one day in years. Meetings and social events and meetings and social events... And let's not forget those meetings. But it's over. I spent a nice night at home, got the rest of my stuff, and I'm pretty much all settled in the dorm now. All my roommates are really nice; there's six of us in my cluster, two to a room, with a living area and a bathroom. In the first room are Melanie and Rebecca, then me and Katie, and then Laurel and Brannon.I only spent $217 on books. And that's only for three classes. Some people were spending up to $5-600 on books, particularly those with two science classes. Those books were really expensive! And I did my supply shopping last night, so I'm pretty much all set now. The good thing is I placed out of French, so I don't have to take anymore of it during college. Yay! Ellie moved into Brandeis this morning, but I haven't heard from her yet today. She called me last night from the hotel room to check in, though. I the only thing I have to bitch about is that my hosting company sold out to someone else, and now I have an 80 MB limit on my space. I have no idea how much I'm taking up now. The one thing I've always hated about HiSpeed is that they never warn their customers before they make a change like this. None whatsoever. I mean, really, isn't it just common sense, not to mention good business practice, to send out a simple little email to tell us what's going on? Ugh. I had a very random thought this week, during one of our many discussion groups. Basically, what I'm wondering is this: Why do people call the old Greek and Roman stories and gods myths, when Christian stories from the Bible are just as unsubstantiated as what they replaced? Does that seem odd to anyone else? Listening to: Into the Woods: Prologue (*runs away from Ellie*) posted 9:08 PM / post 8/18/2001 I desperately needed a design change, and I have several ideas, one completely laid out, but I don't particularly feel like coding it right now. And I feel like something simple. So once I start school and get settled in (and get used to my new computer there), I'll switch.I only have until Tuesday and then my summer's over. I have no reaction at all thus far. I'm not worried about it, but I'm also not particularly excited either. Actually, I think I'm more excited about moving into my dorm room than anything else. ^_^ A new home away from home, and only five minutes away. And that's in the worst traffic imaginable. In a straight line, it's probably less than a mile away. My friend Heather left on Thursday for Oklahoma. I missed her completely because I thought she was leaving Friday. C'est la vie. I have her email addy and her campus address, so I'll just have to write her a letter and find out how she's doing. Jessie starts the same day I do, Mary and Kiki and Ellie all start around the same time, I think, somewhere between the 24th and the 26th. Jessie's going to a really small school in Tennessee that I never heard of (I can't spell it either, so forget that); Mary's going to Vanderbilt, and Ellie to Brandeis. Another friend went to Miami, another to Auburn, and two will be starting Birmingham-Southern in early September. We're all scattering to the winds. But I have lots of photos and addresses, and I'm going to try damn hard to keep in touch. I get another paycheck tomorrow, but I'm not sure how much I have in my account total. I haven't balanced it in about two months... I think maybe I'll do that tonight. I really should before I move. Ugh. I can't imagine how many cds I'll have to burn this weekend to get all my files transferred to my school computer. Much fun. And I need to start packing. Listening to: Thank You by Dido. posted 1:51 AM / post 8/6/2001 Happy Anniversary, Ellie! You made it through a whole year. ^_^And in case anyone wonders about the similarities between our layouts: She liked my purple one so much that she asked me to make one like it for her anniversary edition. And mine will probably change again soon, anyway; I'm getting restless. ^_^ posted 8:36 PM / post 8/2/2001 I seriously think one of the reasons I don't blog much is the size of the text area in Blogger. I need to see how much white space is left on a page so I can fill it up. The text area in Blogger is much too small for that. ^_^I'm feeling mostly better, but I'm still sleeping a lot. I'm pretty sure it's from boredom and having nothing else to do, but it sure doesn't help that I stay in my pajamas all day unless I have to go out somewhere. ^_^ So then, whenever I'm bored, I just crawl into bed.. Oh well. If it persists after I start school, I'll tell my doctor. Till then, screw it. It's summer. ^_^ For some reason MSIE crashes on me whenever I go to my blog. Netscape doesn't. And Ellie says it works fine for her... But it's damn annoying! I like to look at my layouts. ^_^ I have a new design for starlet, but I'll probably wait and put it up in September. I'm trying to curb my designing impulses. It's exhausting to put up new layouts every two months. ^_^ So I'm trying to go seasonal. Mom and I were bored last night and started looking for movies to watch. It turns out she had never watched Roman Holiday or Breakfast at Tiffany's. So we watched some Audrey movies. ^_^ Kiki and Mary were supposed to get home today, so we all need to start some going-away parties before everyone leaves. And I need to get their college addresses so I can write to them. It's always nice to get real mail. ^_^ Mom and me and Ellie are going on a little trip in two weeks. We want to see the Titanic exhibit in Nashville, and the Biltmore and the Hermitage.. And I think some other stuff I don't remember at the moment. And then, hopefully, around Thanksgiving I'll go visit Ellie in Boston, and while I'm there we can visit with our friend Red in New York. He's wacky. But that's okay, so are we. Much fun. ^_^ Well. That takes up a page in my HTML editor, so I guess that's enough today. ^_^ Buh-bye! Listening to: Win Ben Stein's Money in the background. posted 7:57 PM / post |
